Canine Bowen
Canine Bowen Technique (CBT) is a holistic, gentle soft tissue technique which aims to support and encourage the dog’s natural ability to heal itself.
It is a non-invasive hands-on technique that aims to promote healing, pain relief and energy rebalancing.
How does it work?
CBT aims to heighten the healing and coping mechanisms within the dog’s body. Some dogs spend much of their time under sympathetic nervous system control – ‘fight or flight’ which can restrict healing and natural repair mechanisms within the body. CBT aims to allow relaxation and support of the parasympathetic nervous system, thereby encouraging rest, healing, and repair.

It may be beneficial for active hard-working dogs or those competing in obedience, agility, or trialing.

Bowen is one of the safest therapies used with dogs. Complications are very rare. The non-invasive moves are very gentle and made in specific points of a dog’s body with the practitioners’ fingers and thumbs. The work is subtle, well accepted, and not painful. Sessions usually take place within your own home. They will last 20-30 minutes with some extra time on the first few sessions often spent building trust. Following a session, you may see changes over the subsequent days and usually a repeat session would be 7-10 days later. Sometimes only one or two sessions are enough to see noticeable change.
Nothing is forced on the dog and restraint isn’t used so that the dog is in complete control of the session.
